How do I transfer my benefits to my dependent?

http://www.gibill.va.gov/benefits/post_911_gibill/transfer_of_benefits.html
The military member needs to submit a Transfer Education Benefit (TEB - https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/TEB ) Request for your service component for approval. Once approved the dependent completes VA FORM 22-1990E. The dependent will receive a Certificate of Eligibility in the mail. Bring it to the Veterans Resource Center in 124 Funkhouser Building or to Amy Southwood  in room 10 for verification. The University will then notify the VA of your status as an enrolled student.  After that, each semester you must submit a VA Benefits Request Form to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) via Amy Southwood.

What happens if I drop a course during the semester?

If you drop a course and the adjustment changes your training time you must notify Amy Southwood, so she can inform the VA. A change in training time will affect your rate of payment, and failure to notify parties in a timely manner could result in overpayment.

Can I change my major?

To change your major you must complete a change of program form and submit it to the VA for verification, in addition to the University's requirements. The VRC will assist you to ensure that the VA is notified in a timely manner so as not to affect your benefits.

What happens if I get activated and need to deploy?

Before you deploy, bring a copy of your orders to our office in 124 Funkhouser Building (across for the Admissions Office). If your deployment means you must miss classes or withdraw from the University, the VRC will ensure that the proper arrangements are made here at the University so that you can concentrate on preparing for your deployment. We will also officially notify your professors of your deployment. Upon your safe return we will ensure that you are re-enrolled with no hassles, penalties, or fees. We'll also assist you should you need any additional assistance to get re-acclimated to the campus.

Are there any services on campus for veterans with disabilities?

The Disability Resource Center on campus provides equal access to students who are eligible. We advocate for reasonable accommodations‚ removal of barriers‚ and acceptance of different learning methods. In partnership with students‚ faculty‚ and staff‚ our purpose is to achieve an accessible educational environment where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate in all aspects of the university community.

It is recommended that students contact the Disability Resource Center early to request specific assistance so that the required medical or psychological documentation can be reviewed and reasonable accommodations can be provided from the beginning of class work in order to achieve the greatest benefit to the student.  http://www.uky.edu/StudentAffairs/DisabilityResourceCenter/

How long will it take to receive my benefits?

First-time applicants should expect to have to wait at least 6 to 8 weeks from the time the enrollment certification is sent before payment is received. Continuing students will be processed quicker provided there have not been any changes in program or address. 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551)

Will Post 9/11 GI Bill cover summer classes?

•         The Post-9/11 GI Bill will cover tuition and fees and pay the monthly housing allowance for summer courses. To get the full benefit you must be full time, which is 3 credit hours for the first summer session and 6 credit hours for the second summer session.

•         Your total entitlement (months of eligibility) will be reduced by 1 month for Summer I and 2 months for Summer II if you use your benefits over the summer.

•         Another thing to consider if you’re planning on taking courses this summer is that the Post-9/11 GI Bill pays a reduced rate of BAH if you are only enrolled in online courses. You would need to be enrolled in at least one brick-and-mortar course in order to receive the full BAH. Here is a link to a more detailed explanation of the BAH rates for online classes:
